Terms of Service

Last Updated: January 22, 2026

These terms apply to:

By using these sites, you agree to these terms of service.

Our other apps, tools, products, and services have their own terms.

Using This Website

You can browse, read, and learn from this website. You can link to it. You can share it with others. Pretty straightforward.

Please don’t try to hack it, scrape it in ways that hurt performance, or use it for anything illegal.

AI and Automated Scraping

We give no permission for any AI, LLM, or similar technology to scrape this site, any part of it, or any of our content, documentation, code, or anything else.

This includes but is not limited to training machine learning models, building datasets, or any automated data collection for AI purposes.

Our Content

We own the content on this website, including text, images, logos, and design. You can reference it, quote it, and share links to it. If you want to use substantial portions for something, just ask us at hello@yarnspinner.dev.

The Yarn Spinner name and logo are our trademarks. Please don’t use them in ways that suggest we endorse something we don’t.

Try Yarn Spinner (try.yarnspinner.dev)

Try Yarn Spinner is a free, browser-based tool for writing and testing Yarn Spinner dialogue. Here’s what you need to know:

What You Can Do

You can write Yarn scripts, test and play dialogue, load scripts from your computer or GitHub Gists, save scripts to your computer, and export standalone HTML dialogue players. All of this happens entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. We don’t receive, store, or process your scripts on our servers.

Your Scripts Belong to You

Any dialogue scripts, stories, or content you create using try.yarnspinner.dev are entirely yours. You retain full ownership and all rights to your work. We have no access to your scripts, don’t claim any rights to them, and can’t use them for anything because we never see them in the first place.

You’re free to use your scripts in any project, commercial or otherwise. You can license them however you want. They’re your creative work.

Exported Players

When you export a standalone player from try.yarnspinner.dev, you’re creating a self-contained HTML file that includes:

  • Your dialogue script (which you own)
  • The Yarn Spinner runtime (which is open source under the MIT License)
  • A player interface (also open source)

The exported player is yours to use, distribute, or modify as you see fit. If you distribute it, you should include appropriate attribution for Yarn Spinner as required by the MIT License.

No Server Storage

We don’t store your scripts on our servers. Everything is saved locally in your browser’s localStorage. This means:

  • Your work persists between sessions on the same browser/device
  • Your work is NOT backed up by us
  • Your work is NOT synchronized across devices
  • You’re responsible for saving your work to disk regularly

If you clear your browser data or switch browsers/devices, your work in localStorage will be gone. We cannot recover it for you.

Loading from GitHub Gists

When you load a script from a GitHub Gist, your browser makes a direct request to GitHub’s API. We don’t proxy this request or see the Gist content. You’re subject to GitHub’s terms of service when accessing their API.

Loading a Gist creates a local copy in your browser. Changes you make to the script in try.yarnspinner.dev do NOT save back to the original Gist. It’s a one-way import.

Your Content

If you submit something to us (like a showcase entry or contact form), you keep ownership of it. By submitting, you give us permission to display it on the website and use it in our marketing materials. We can keep it displayed as long as it’s relevant, and we can remove it if needed.

We link to other websites and services. We’re not responsible for their content or privacy practices. When you click a link and leave our site, you’re subject to their terms and policies.

Disclaimers

This website and its content are provided as is. We try to keep everything accurate and up to date, but we’re human and things change. We can’t guarantee the site will always be available or error free.

We’re not liable for any damages from using (or not being able to use) this website. If something goes wrong, our liability is limited to the amount you paid to access the website (which is zero).

Changes

We can update these terms anytime. If we make major changes, we’ll note it on the website. Continued use of the site means you accept the updated terms.
